“Everyone needs a place to live. Owning a home is a really big dream of ours that would be impossible outside of Lakeshore Habitat.”
Rahim, Bibi, & their two children are refugees from Afghanistan. Bibi moved to Holland in 2016 with her family, and Rahim moved in 2021 when they got married. Since then they have lived in a second-floor apartment where their kids had no space outside to play. Their rental cost kept going up, and with only Rahim working, they struggled to afford a larger apartment with outdoor space. Two of Bibi’s brothers (Daud & Muhammed) were accepted into Lakeshore Habitat’s Homeownership Program, so Rahim & Bibi decided to apply as well.
When they found out they were going to be homeowners, they were overjoyed! Rahim shares, “There are no words for me to explain the excitement. When I called my wife, she couldn’t believe it and kept calling back and asking me if I was joking!”
“We were worried about our kids’ future. If we have our own house, it’s a safe and permanent place where we can live and the kids can play and get education and opportunity and be happy. That’s our dream.”
Lakeshore Habitat is so thankful for the opportunity to partner with Rahim, Bibi, and their children and help provide them with a space of their own.
