Charelle has lived in Holland with her family since she was 3. Growing up, her family rented, leading to lots of moving and not feeling like she had a place of her own to call home. This created a deep desire for the stability provided by a home in her, so when she had her daughter four years ago she knew that was something she wanted for both of them.
Almost two years ago, Charelle moved into My House Ministries’ safe house for women and children. While they shared the home with other families, it was her first time living on her own with her daughter. The time Charelle and her daughter spent in the program was challenging, but rich and full of growth, also leading to Charelle becoming a Christian. After a year and a half there, Charelle moved into a transitional apartment owned by Doors of Hope, a ministry out of Zeeland.
While Charelle is grateful for both My House Ministries and Doors of Hope, she always knew that neither were permanent options for her and her daughter. She heard about Lakeshore Habitat’s Homeownership Program through a family member who is also a Habitat homeowner. She applied and was shocked when she found out she was accepted.
“It was surreal, and still is. I was in complete shock,” she shared. “We’ve lived a lot of places in Holland, so having a home that my child can grow up in is exciting.”
We are so thankful for the opportunity to help Charelle provide the home she has longed for to her family.
